Georgian conservatories are a High Wycombe favourite

Georgian conservatories feature a flat front and a square or rectangular symmetrical shape. This gives the home owner of a High Wycombe Georgian conservatory an ideal space to set out furniture and plants, with no wasted space. The Georgian conservatory typically has a high, sloping roof style that gives a spectacular vaulted effect. Your conservatory floods with light, making it a bright, airy and uplifting room.

Georgian style conservatories were often used on period homes from the 18^th and early 19^th centuries, and the style has been replicated on many neo-Georgian homes ever since. Own one and you've every right to feel posh, because the Georgian conservatory was originally the preserve only of those with style and the very rich who lived in stately homes. The Georgian conservatory was highly exclusive, coming as they did before the boom Victorian time for conservatories.

SECURITY

Conservatories have often been wrongly seen as a soft target for opportunist thieves because of the amount of glass in the building. This is simply not true, With good security features a conservatory is as secure as any other room in you home.

There are a number of things that you we at Bahama can do to make your conservatory as secure as possible:

• Ensure that you have internal beading on your glass, which prevents people from moving the glass externally.
• Doors should be fitted with Multi point locking systems.
• Windows should be fitted with a shoot locking mechanism which pushes two bolts into the actual window frame
• Force resistant hinges should also be fitted to all windows and doors.
• Ask your installer if your conservatory is covered by BS7950/7412 which is awarded for improved security requirements of mechanical loading, human intervention and glazing security.
• If you are having a glass roof ensure you are getting toughened glass.

There are many other security precautions on the outside of the conservatory you can undertake such as security lighting, secure locks on garden gates and even prickly bushes planted round the garden can deter would be thieves.

Edwardian conservatories

The Edwardian design offers high Wycombe owners the best of both worlds. Generous internal proportions in a simple rectangular design, this ensures that furniture and internal fittings are easy to position and are relaxing to use. These conservatories have all the character of the Victorian while giving you more  space as there are no angle cuts on the corners.

Although the room is more functional, you still need to decide where to position any doors. Sitting outside doors at the end or on one of the sides will make a major difference to daily usability. Think about moving freely around the furniture and to which part of the garden or patio you would like step out. Would you really like children to continually interrupt your guests at a dinner party due to poorly placed doors or would you prefer them to step adroitly to the side while guests enjoy the ambience of your conservatory in peace?

As with the Victorian style, a lantern roof can add extra flexibility - especially to a larger construction.

A plain gable-end on an Edwardian conservatory can create even simpler lines to blend with some modern building styles. The gable front conservatory retains  the single box structure of the Edwardian, but with a natural and graceful front elevation.
